Anna Wintour: Nothing new, except for a softer image

I thought THIS Telegraph interview (by Luke Leitch) with Anna Wintour was too good not to share. In it, Anna discusses her father, her passion for nurturing young fashion talent, her start at Harper’s Bazaar, and what she thinks of being a “celebrity”. The article doesn’t offer much of what we don’t already know, but it does show a somewhat, dare I say, softer side of Anna. Could it be that fashions most notorious ‘Ice Queen’ is doing away with her cold image? I managed to dig up some photos of the famous fashion editor that match this sweeter image. Yes, that is Anna Wintour in gold lame.

Some favourite Anna quotes from the article:

“One doesn’t want fashion to look ridiculous, silly, or out of step with the times – but you do want designers that make you think, that make you look at fashion differently. That’s how fashion changes. If it doesn’t change, it’s not looking forward. And that’s important to me.”

“Fashion today is available to everybody in a way that it’s never been before: you’ve got every designer you’ve ever heard of working for H&M or Target. That’s fantastic.”

“It’s no secret that I worked very hard for the president this campaign… And it’s very rewarding to see that money can’t buy the White House, which is what the Republicans were trying to do…”

“New York is a city for people who want to work. And I love that it is a city where everyone is from somewhere else – so you are not judged by your accent, who your dad was, or any of that Englishness.”

“Grace [Coddington] is having her book party in New York on Monday. And I have to be here for that. It’s a big thing. She’s given so much to this magazine – she’s one of the great unsung heroines of our business.”
